Thumbs+Up+Thumbs+Down

Happy Tuesday, folks! As the grind comes at us in full force (and doesn’t seem like it’ll ever stop), you can already tell that soft deadlines are put on the back burner with this late post… But after a short spell of procrastination, we’re back and ready to give you our hits and misses of the week:

Thumbs Up. No Hurricane Florence. While many living in Georgia, the Carolinas, and even Virginia had to head north and west to seek shelter from Hurricane Florence, we here in Charm City were able to dodge its blows and enjoy a beautiful weekend that ended up being surprisingly sunny. The Category 4 storm has left many of the Southern states flooded, leaving much work left to be done to restore their homes and towns. Though we didn’t get the worst of it, it seems as though Florence’s wrath has travelled its way up the coast anyway: If your phone happened to wake you up at 2 a.m. with a piercing flash flood warning to join the thunder and lightning show last night, you know what I’m talking about.

Thumbs Down. Boulder’s new dine-in policy. The new Boulder changes have been the talk of the town since the very moment we got back to campus, and it’s clear that the student body has had enough. From the disappearance of to-go boxes to the latest ban against walking through the dining hall at dinner time, our beloved Boulder Garden Cafe just isn’t the same. 87% of our Instagram poll responded voted “Thumbs Down” on these policies. News Editor Stefan Joyce ’20 is following the story closely, so keep an eye out for updates. Check out our Opinions section later this week to read what some of our students have to say on the matter.

Thumbs Up. All sports teams will be in the Patriot League play starting this weekend. After some intense games with rival universities, all of our sports teams are now officially in the Patriot League play starting this weekend. On Friday, the women’s soccer team will be playing a home game against Navy at 7:30 p.m., men’s soccer will open against Colgate at 5 p.m., and the women’s volleyball team will play against Lehigh at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the women’s volleyball team also has a match against Lafayette at 2 p.m. We wish our teams the best of luck. Go hounds!

Thumbs Down. City police cracking down on streets surrounding campus. With limited parking virtually everywhere on campus,we’ve all had our fair share of run-ins with Loyola police officers (Seriously, if you haven’t yet, your time is coming, probably). But recently, a handful of seniors have had to face another kind of authority: Baltimore City Police. The city police have been cracking down on streets surrounding campus, especially those around Rahner Village, which is particularly annoying for seniors trying to get to places like the FAC or West Side. Whether or not these streets are within BPD’s domain, we’d much rather to answer to LoPo, whose officers are hard at work to make our campus safe.

Thumbs Up. TaterTot Tuesday. Tuesdays are rough. Why not get some tots? To make up for the enforcement of strict policies, Boulder has blessed us TaterTot Tuesdays, which will guarantee tots at the Grill station every second day of the week. The perfect side for a burger, who can say no to these crispy, delicious, bite-sized wonders? My mouth is watering just thinking about them, and it’s not even noon. Make your Tuesdays better with some tots!

Thumbs Down. Activities Fair postponed… AGAIN! The endless saga of rescheduling the Activities Fair is far from over, with the much-awaited event being postponed yet another few days to Thursday, Sept. 18. After a string of weather-related cancellations, we are really hoping that the fair actually happens later this week. Club boards and members alike are itching to get things rolling, and here at The Greyhound, we are in need of writers! Come stop by our table to sign up to join our team, and get a free sticker in the process! If you’re still out on the Quad at 5:45 p.m., keep at eye out for News Editor Stefan Joyce ’20 and Social Media Editor Matty Brown ’20… you’re in for a treat!

Have a great rest of your week, Hounds, and don’t procrastinate if you can avoid it. Stay dry!
