Here’s My Top Five Super Bowl Commercials

The following represents the opinion of the student reporter and does not represent the views of Loyola University Maryland, the Greyhound, or Loyola University’s Department of Communication.

It’s hard not to watch the Super Bowl. Whether you’re watching it for the game or the halftime show, it’s something that almost everyone does. One thing that is always talked about the day after is the commercials. Personally, I don’t watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. However, each year, there’s always a favorite commercial, and this year is no exception. So, here are my top five Super Bowl commercials for 2023.

#5 Blue Moon

The commercial should really be an ad for the MillerCoors company, as the three beers that were advertised are all produced by them. Personally, I thought it was really surprising that it was a Blue Moon commercial since so much emphasis was put on Miller Lite and Coors Light. The fighting was really entertaining.

#4 Workday Rockstars

Workday is an enterprise management company that supplies software programs to businesses to help with finances, human resources, and more. I think that the commercial was a pretty solid attempt that poked fun at the idea of complimenting someone in the workplace by calling them a rockstar. The ad featured classic rock artists like Ozzy Osbourne, Joan Jett, Billy Idol, Paul Stanley, who was in his KISS outfit, and Gary Clark Jr.

#3 Ram’s Premature Electrification

During the fourth quarter, when I was worrying over the $50 I bet- spoiler, I did not win my bet- this ad came on which spoofed medicine ads for male problems in the bed. It provided a good laugh for me in an otherwise worrisome final 15 minutes. In addition, I think it was funny to have a borderline PG-13 commercial.

#2 Popcorners x “Breaking Bad”

Since I am a fan of the classic show “Breaking Bad,” I was excited to see Aaron Paul, Bryan Cranston, and Raymond Cruz reprise their roles as Jesse Pinkman, Walter White, and Tuco Salamanca for the Popcorners commercial. The ad reminded me of a scene in the show where Walter and Jesse show Tuco their own product for the first time.

#1 Tubi

I’m not ashamed to say that I was one of the people absolutely fooled by the Tubi commercial– especially because I accidentally turned off the stream of Rihanna’s performance for 10 seconds because the stream was buffering. Needless to say, that caused an uproar in my apartment.

So here are the top 5 Super Bowl Ads for 2023. In my opinion, with each passing year, the Super Bowl commercials get worse. But still, some of them are able to leave lasting impressions. I’m confident this time next year, we will all be remembering the Tubi commercial and the fear it brought.
