Tucked away in one of Baltimore’s trendiest harbor neighborhoods, Canton, NiHao Baltimore offers foodies Chinese cuisine that blends tradition with a modern flare.
The restaurant has an extensive menu, with standout dishes like the scallion bubble pancake, soup dumplings and popcorn chicken, and I got to try all of it. With additional vegan and vegetarian food options, NiHao has options for just about everyone. NiHao also offers handcrafted cocktails for those 21+.
The restaurant offers a family-style way of dining, a great way to explore the menu while catching up with family and friends over a shared meal.
Nihao’s Pork Soup Dumplings were a standout dish for me. Be sure to add them to your list of must-haves!

The restaurant openly welcomes its customers as soon as they walk in. Daphne Addo ‘28, a self proclaimed ‘foodie’, said how comfortable she feels every time she eats at NiHao.
“As soon as I sit down at the table that I’ll be eating at, the waiter and staff are super friendly. They always take the time to tell me their personal favorites if I’m having any trouble on deciding what I want,” Addo said.
The restaurant exudes an energy that feels like it’s home. There is an instant connection that the restaurant makes with its customers that resonates with so many. Simone Sanchez ‘26 explains that this connection is why she feels NiHao is so special.
“Besides the food of course, I absolutely keep coming back to this place because of its atmosphere. The lighting, the staff, and the overall feel of the restaurant makes me feel like I’m not in a restaurant in Baltimore. It makes me feel like I’m in someone’s kitchen, and that’s really special,” Sanchez said.
Chris Blaubelt ‘10, works at NiHao Baltimore, and explains why the restaurant’s atmosphere resonates with so many people in the area.

“It’s kind of like that neighborhood feel where we’re not trying to be too fancy. It’s definitely a place where you can come with friends and family, and share a great meal with a lot of great Chinese dishes,” Blaubelt said.
Blaubelt said that the reactions he gets from customers after trying the food at NiHao makes his time there very rewarding. He described some of the most memorable ones.
“Oh, god, I’ve seen it all … .Yeah I’ve seen people cry over the soup dumplings and popcorn chicken. It’s really cool to see how much people really do enjoy the food here,” Blaubelt said.
