Santi Aldama ‘23 has been named to the All-Patriot League First Team for the 2021 basketball season. Aldama leads the league in points and rebounds, averaging 21.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.
Not only is Aldama part of the Patriot League’s First Team, but he is also part of an elite company on a national level. According to a press release from Loyola Athletics, he is one of only three players in Division I to average “20 or more points and 10-plus rebounds per game” this season.”
In 14 games this season, Aldama has posted seven double-doubles, 10 20+ point games, and two 30+ point games. According to sports-reference.com, “he is the only Division I player who is averaging 18 points, nine rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game this year. If those averages hold, he will become the first player in conference history to achieve such marks.”
While Aldama has shined on the court, he has also excelled in the classroom. He was named to the Academic All-Patriot League team for his great work on and off the court. He “carries a 3.533 grade-point average as a business management student” and he has recently been nominated for the Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar Athlete Award. Additionally, Aldama has been recognized on the Loyola Dean’s List and he was a part of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, all according to the press release.
Aldama has been a bright spot for Loyola this season, and he, along with the rest of the team, will try to keep the season alive on March 10, when they take on Army in a quarterfinal matchup in the Patriot League Tournament.
