On Thursday, September 17, singer -songwriter Ryan Adams came out with news that many fans have been dying to hear: the release date of his cover album of Taylor Swift’s “1989.” Adams has been working on his own full album that will include every song on Swift’s latest release and now it seems like it is just about ready. Adams has finally confirmed that the album, likewise called “1989,” is going to be released on September 21, only a mere few days away. Luckily for all those diehard fans who just can’t possibly wait those extra days, Adams has something to hold you over. Not only did the singer reveal on Zane Lows Beats 1 Show when his entire album of covers would be released, he also debuted the first full-length cover from the album, and what other song would it be than Swifts hit, “Bad Blood.”
The song, tailored to Adams signature style of slightly darker, grittier, and more instrumental is the perfect contrast to Swift’s original version. Hers, a pop anthem to dance to, has the pep that Adams’ doesn’t need. Rather, his version is more mellow, relying on the thick grit of his voice to carry the piece, giving it a more indie tone overall. For those of you who maybe weren’t entirely into the first version, and perhaps aren’t so into pop, Adams’ version is a great alternative. He brings a completely new soul to the song, allowing it to promote its sound instead of its spunk.
Now, for those of you out there who may be a little confused, here’s the quick rundown of how this project came into being. Already a fan of Taylor Swift, Adams was particularly vocal to support her latest album, “1989.” Adams, who has done various covers before, first began hinting at such a project when he posted Instagram videos, joking about how he was going to steal a little bit of the pep out of Swift’s first song on the album, “Welcome To New York.” After posting more Instagram pictures, and hinting at more songs, it wasn’t until Swift reached out to him, bubbling with pure excitement, and had him confirm that such a project was really happening via Twitter. Yet, despite all of the hype surrounding this, Adams never initially expressed plans to create an entire album. Pumped and ready, people have been wondering how long it would be until this new project would be released. Now our questions have been answered. September 21, 2015. It’s coming.
