The midterm elections are coming up on Nov. 8. This voting guide outlines the voting options and deadlines for various states. Maryland: Out-of-state students can register and vote in Maryland
As students studying at a university in Maryland, out-of-state students are eligible to register and vote in the state. When you go to vote, you’ll need to bring your Loyola ID, and fill out your Maryland address on the paperwork. If you live on campus, your Maryland address is the university’s address.
If you are from Maryland and this is your first time voting, you will need to show an acceptable document to prove your residency. Acceptable documents include a Maryland driver’s license, a Maryland state or federal ID card, and an MVA ID card.
The deadline to register to vote online and by mail in the state of Maryland has passed, but there are still other ways of voting that you can still register for. You can register and vote during the early voting period of Oct. 27 to Nov. 3. You can also register and vote in person on Election Day, Nov. 8.
Maryland residents requesting an absentee ballot must do so before Nov. 1. Once you receive your absentee ballot, you have until Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. EST to have it postmarked. You can also return your absentee ballot in person by Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. EST.
Pennsylvania: You have until Nov. 1 to request an absentee ballot
In the state of Pennsylvania, any voter can request a ballot by mail. Pennsylvania also offers in-person mail-in early voting, where you receive your ballot in the mail and drop it off in person. The registration deadlines for in-person, online, and by-mail voting have all passed, but you can register to vote for future elections through LoyolaVotes.
If you have registered to vote, you have until Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. EST for your absentee ballot request to be received. The deadline for returning your absentee ballot, either by mail or in person, is Nov. 8 at 8 p.m.
Connecticut: You can register online by Nov. 1
The state of Connecticut offers absentee ballots by mail to any voter who is unable to vote in person. You can request a mail-in ballot with the application found on LoyolaVotes. You can register to vote in person in the state of Connecticut during Election Day on Nov. 8. You can also register to vote online by Nov. 1 at 11:59 p.m. EST or you can register to vote by mail by Nov. 1.
Once registered to vote absentee, your absentee ballot request must be received by Nov. 7. Your completed ballot must then be received by Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. EST either by mail or in person.
New York: The deadline to return ballots is Nov. 8
In the state of New York, eligible voters can request a mail-in ballot. All other voters are expected to vote in person. Registration deadlines for all forms of voting have passed, but you can still register to vote in future elections through LoyolaVotes.
If you are registered to vote absentee in the state of New York, the deadline to request an absentee ballot has passed. If you have already requested your mail-in ballot, you have until Nov. 8 to return your ballot via mail, or by Nov. 8 at 9 p.m. EST to return your ballot in person.
New Jersey: You can request an absentee ballot by Nov. 1
The state of New Jersey allows any voter to request a mail-in ballot. All registration deadlines have passed, but you can still register to vote in future elections through LoyolaVotes.
If you are registered to vote absentee, you have until Nov. 1 to request your ballot. Your completed ballot must be returned either in person or in the mail by Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. EST.
