Snapchat lovers, there is a new trend coming around, and it doesn’t have to do with your phone. Last week, Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snapchat, renamed Snap Inc., released video-sharing sunglasses. With Spectacles, the name of the sunglasses, and a simple tap of a button on the glasses, a 10-second video will be recorded from your first-person view. Why would anyone buy these if you can do the same thing with your phone?
First of all, the Spectacles will give the viewer a 115-degree-angle, much wider than a phone’s angle, and closer to human eye-sight. Secondly, your hands are now free to enjoy what you are doing. Still not convinced? Spiegel said, “I could see my own memory, through my own eyes-it was unbelievable…It was the closest I’d ever come to feeling like I was there again.”
Luckily for those of you who still want to use your phone, “Spectacles video syncs wirelessly to a smartphone, making it easily sharable.” Snap Inc. plans to start rolling the Spectacles out slowly at a price of $129.99, but demand will influence that. With Snap, Inc.’s development of spectacles, which feature an independent camera, they increase their opportunities for future business ventures. It will be very interesting to see where Snap Inc. takes Snapchat and the rest of its business in the near future.
