On Friday, April 25, the auditorium was packed with energy as students, parents, and faculty gathered for one of Loyola’s annual musical events: Chordbusters.
The a cappella showcase featured two of our school’s standout a capella groups, The Chimes and The Belles, who left the audience cheering, laughing, and some even in tears- all without a single instrument.
The Belles kicked off the night with a rendition of Jazmine Sullivan’s “Bust Your Windows,” setting the tone with a bold opener. Their tight harmonies and stage presence captured the drama of the song, immediately drawing the crowd into the raw emotion of their set, evident with their multiple standing ovations throughout.
Following the Belles, The Chimes took the stage with countless hits, old and new, including a mashup of “My Kink is Karma” and “Cruel Summer.” The Chimes delivered an upbeat fusion that had the audience hanging onto every note. Their ability to shift moods mid-performance- from playful to poignant- showcased not only their vocal skill but also their knack for inventive storytelling through music.
