The women’s basketball team used a monster second half to pull away from Fairleigh Dickinson and get their first victory of the season. The Hounds held their opponent to just 16 second-half points to secure the 75-46 win on the road.

Loyola, now 1-2, had several double-digit scorers. Laryn Edwards ‘22 scored a career-high 17 points, Stephanie Karcz ‘20 had 13, and Emily McAteer ’23 scored 11 off the bench. Alexis Gray ’20 also had eight points.

The Greyhounds jumped out to an early 10-point lead, but FDU answered right back with 10 straight points to tie the game after one quarter. The second quarter was tight the whole way, with Loyola taking a 33-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The second half was all green and grey. Loyola went on an 18-3 run to open the third quarter, and by the end of the period they had a 17-point lead. Loyola won the game running away, as they expanded that lead to 29 in the fourth quarter.

McAteer provided a huge spark off the bench, shooting 50% for the night. The Greyhound defense shut down FDU, forcing 23 turnovers and limiting them to just 30.8% shooting from the field.

The Hounds have a week to rest, then they return to Reitz Arena to face Howard in their home opener next Wednesday. Tip-off is at 6:00 p.m.
