On Mar. 17, President Rev. Brian F. Linnane, S.J. emailed the Loyola community with the news of the tragic passing of Nick Myers ‘23. Myers passed away on Mar. 16 after being hospitalized with a brain abscess and stroke earlier in the month.
A resident of River Edge, N.J., and a graduate of River Dell High School, Myers enjoyed playing lacrosse, acting as captain of his high school’s swim team, and getting involved in Boy Scouts of America. At Loyola, Linnane writes that Myers had many friends and was enjoying his classes.
“He will be missed by the many students, faculty, and staff who knew and loved him,” Linnane said.
Today, a private Mass in the Ignatius House chapel will be held in Myers’ honor to pray for him, his family, and his friends. At 5:15 p.m., Linnane invites community members to pause for a moment of prayer, regardless of where they may be.
“It is particularly difficult to receive this news at a time when we are not all on campus— and at a time of such uncertainty and anxiety,” Linnane said. “As a community, we know how to come together to support one another when we are all here, but it is more challenging now. I encourage you to reach out to your friends and others in our Loyola community to offer them comfort and accept consolation in return.”
The Counseling Center, Campus Ministry, and the Office of Student Life are all offering assistance at this time.
When available, details about celebrations and services for Myers will be shared from Campus Ministry. A memorial Mass will be held for Myers once students have returned to campus.
