The men’s swimming and diving team defeated Bucknell in a dual meet for the first time in school history last Saturday Nov. 23, topping the Bison 187-108 to improve to 6-1 in dual meets this season. The women’s team won six events on the day but were defeated 171-129 to fall to 4-3.
Eight swimmers won individual events on the men’s side, led by Reid Hussey ‘22 with three. He took the top spot in the 200-yard individual medley, the 500 freestyle, and the 200 freestyle. Sung Lee ’22 also contributed to three victories, winning the 100 freestyle and 200 butterfly in individual efforts.
Lee also took part in the 200 medley relay with Conor Rutigliano ‘21, Jay Venit ‘20, and Jimmy Hayburn ’22 to end the day. Hayburn also won the 400 freestyle relay along with Colin Anderson ‘21, Brendon Kolar ‘21, and Jonathan Brooks ‘22.
David Sears ‘22 led a pack of four Loyola swimmers to win the 100 breaststroke. Zac Metzler ’20 won the 200 fly, Mark Boran ’21 took the 200 backstroke, and Max Verheyen ’23 claimed victory in the 200 breaststroke. Rutigliano outraced the pack in the 100 backstroke, and finally Nick Pacitti ’22 took first place in the 1000 freestyle.
Four swimmers won individual events for the women’s team: Megan Dickey ‘21, Emily Koegl ‘20, Emma Schouten ’21 and Devin Cronin ‘20.
Dickey took the 50 freestyle by four-tenths of a second, beating out teammate Sophie Jahan ’22. Koegl won the 100 fly, while Cronin took first place in the 100 breaststroke, then finished in third in the 200 breaststroke behind Schouten, who won the event.
The women won both relay events, as Cronin, Dickey, Elizabeth Walsh ‘22, and Anne Hayburn ‘20 won the 200 medley relay. In the 400 free relay, the group of Jahan, Dickey, Claire Bowser ‘23, and Alden Coyne ‘20 took first place.
The Hounds hadThanksgiving week off and return to Mangione Pool for the annual H2ounds Invitational starting on Friday, Dec. 6. Swimmers will take their first marks at 5 p.m.
