The Loyola men’s basketball team had a hard-fought 84-80 win over Colgate this Sunday. This win, though not dominating, showed the Greyhounds in complete control of the game against the No. 1 ranked team in the Patriot League. They are now 5-9 in conference play and 13-14 overall.
Santi Aldama ‘23 had his career high 22 points, of which 14 were in the first half. Another first year Cam Spencer ‘23 had a strong game coming off the bench with 13 points.
Kavaughn Scott ‘20, a forward for the Greyhounds, says the scoring from the freshman is big time. “At this point of the season, I think they’ve found their groove and can help our team out a lot going forward into the last four games and the postseason.”
Loyola took an early lead in the first half, in which everything seemed to click. The ball was moved around, players knocking down shots, and momentum was held for a majority of the half. They ended the half with a go-ahead dunk from Andrew Kostecka ‘20.
Colgate began cutting the lead early into the second half with a 7-0 run. Will Rayman scored a season-high 27 points against the Hounds, helping keep the Raiders in the game in the second half. However, Loyola held on to the lead with Isaiah Hart ‘21 hitting foul shots to end the game.
Catch the Hounds at home this Wednesday, when they take on Army West Point at 7:00 p.m.
