How to be a Healthy Hound

Think eating at a cafeteria means you have to eat unhealthily? Think again! By opting for the nutricious options at Boulder, Iggy’s, and other places, you can still maintain a healthy lifestyle while eating on campus!

Boulder Garden Cafe

  • The salad bar is always stocked with tons of fruits, veggies, and beans, so be sure to stock up every time you go!
  • There are always two soup options available—opt for the non-creamy soups.
  • At the sandwich line, pick multigrain or whole-wheat bread and load up on veggies to make your sandwich extra healthy! Also pick avocado over mayo for your spread.
  • The entree and sides section always offers a variety of roasted vegetables, healthy grains, and other options.
  • Always take a piece of fruit from the fruit cart!
  • If you’re getting a burger, opt for the high-in-fiber black bean burger, topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, and avocado.
  • Instead of soda or juice, opt for water or tea (you can usually find lemons near the tea and coffee section to put in your drinks!)

Boulder 2.0

  • The Mediterranean bar has a plethora of veggies, greens, and avocado! Take some hummus and pita for a healthy replacement for potato chips.
  • If downstairs is too hectic you can grab your soup from upstairs, opting for broth-based soups.
  • There’s always a healthy option at the hot deli sandwich line, like grilled portobello sandwiches with a side of potatoes and veggies!

Iggy’s Market

  • Check out the salad bar, sandwich line, and entrees just like at Boulder.
  • Always grab from fruit from the fruit and granola bar (maybe make a parfait!)
  • At the market, look for pressed juices like Naked instead of soda.
  • Opt for gluten-free selections when buying staples like rice and pasta since they’ll have less additives than conventional products.

Green Peel

  • Smoothies and acai bowls are great options—the more veggies and fruits you can add the better! Try seeds like chia and flax for topping – high in fiber, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids!

Cold Spring Sushi

  • Veggie sushi is always a great pick.
  • They now offer seaweed salads!
  • Edamame is a great snack.

Taqueria

  • Bowls are best because you fill up on fiber-rich brown rice!
  • Choose brown rice with lots of peppers, onions, and salsa to get in your veggies!
