Wait, Boulder what?

As James White ’20 walked towards Boulder after his class finished at 7:15 p.m., he was excited. That night, Sept. 20, the menu said there would be a pierogi bar. As he got closer, he noticed one of his friends leaving Boulder.

“Hey, aren’t you going to dinner?” White asked.

“Nope,” his friend said. “Boulder is on fire.”

Rumors have been circling around campus about this apparent “Boulder fire” that White’s friend and many others believed to be true.

However, Boulder did not catch on fire.

Selma Shannon, a Dining Services supervisor, said that the fire alarm went off for an unknown reason.

“We are not sure if someone pulled it or hit it by accident. But when the alarm goes off, the sprinklers go on,” Shannon said.

When the alarm rang through Boulder, everyone needed to exit. When they were allowed back in, Loyola’s dining staff was faced with the clean-up of the sprinklers.

“The sprinklers made a mess. Some food was ruined, we couldn’t cook on the grills and everything was wet,” Shannon said. “We were here until late last night trying to clean everything up.”

During lunch the next day, students who went to Boulder had a treat of an All You Care to Eat lunch service rather than the Ideal Meal service students one normally receive on the weekdays. Students swiped in and could choose from lunch options in a buffet style. The upstairs dining area was still open and serving food, while the downstairs area only had the buffet or the sandwich station.

“It’s weird that it is buffet style and I could just swipe in and eat what I wanted,” Kailyn McCourt ’20 said. “I’m just happy the sandwich section is still open.”

Boulder is now open for normal All You Care to Eat dinner service.
