Broken records and all-league performances highlighted the 2018-19 swimming and diving season from start to finish. The men’s team went 5-4 on the year, and the women’s team went 7-3 in their meets.

Four Greyhound swimmers earned all-Patriot League honors this year, the most in a single season since Loyola joined the Patriot League in 2013. Emma Schouten ‘21 earned first team All-Patriot League, becoming the first Loyola swimmer to earn the honor. Emily Koegl ’20 and Megan Dickey ’21 made the women’s second team, and Sung Lee ’22 made the men’s second team.

The men’s and women’s teams earned similar placings in the invitationals they participated in throughout the season. Both earned fourth place at the Thomas Murphy Invitational on the weekend of Nov. 2-3, where Schouten and Dickey won individual events in the 200-yard breaststroke and 100-yard freestyle, respectively.

Both teams dominated the H20Hounds Invitational from Nov. 29-30. Four school records and two Mangione Pool records were broken during the meet. Dickey swam a 50.26 in the 100-yard freestyle, breaking the pool record of 50.49 set by three-time Olympic medalist Katie Hoff in 2003. She also broke the record in the 200-yard freestyle, swimming 1:52.99.

Schouten broke the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:25.81.

Lee swam a 1:48.84 in the 200m butterfly, breaking Loyola hall-of-famer Marko Turcinov’s, ‘05,  record set in 2005.

Devin Cronin ’20 broke her own record in the 100m backstroke, swimming a 1:02.69. She and Dickey also shared in another record-breaking performance along with Koegl and Taylor Ament ‘22. The quartet swam a 1:43.12, handily beating the previous time of 1:44.36.

Schouten and Dickey shared the Women’s Swimmer of the Meet award, and Lee won the same honor on the men’s side for the event.

At the Patriot League Championships hosted by Bucknell from Feb. 20-23, both teams placed sixth. Schouten broke three school records that weekend. She placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.05), fifth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:23.35) and ninth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:54.46). Those times were good for 40 total points.

Dickey finished second in the 50-yard freestyle, breaking the record by posting a 23:02. She was also a part of two relay teams who set school records at the meet: the 400-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle.
