The Loyola University Maryland women’s tennis squad dominated Coppin State University on Saturday, sweeping the Eagles in straight sets, 7-0, at Butler Courts.
The No. 1 doubles match featured junior Olivia Ott and sophomore Emily Hughes, who combined to defeat Garenita Goede and Katherine Chrisholm, 8-2.
Freshman Ania Krawiec and freshman Alexandria Billups defeated Ashley Milo and Zalica Sunkins in No. 2 doubles, 8-1. The Greyhounds won the No. 3 doubles match by default.
Loyola was able to win the first five singles matches in straight sets and won the No. 6 match by default.
Sophomore Megan Hahn defeated Goede with a 6-0, 6-1 score, and fellow sophomore Haleigh Morgus won her No. 2 doubles match against Chrisholm, 6-1, 6-0.
Freshman Katelyn Hissong defeated Milo, 6-1, 6-0 in No. 3 singles, while Ott defeated Sunkins, 6-0, 6-1. Senior Tiffany Ash wrapped up the sweep with two 6-3 victories over Miranda Taylor in No. 5 singles.
On Friday night, the women’s squad tied the Delaware State Hornets, 3-3, after the match was called for darkness.
Prior to the halt in action, Morgus, Hissong and Hughes each won their respective singles matches. Morgus came back after a 6-2 loss against Ksenia Kozlova in the first set to win the next two sets, 6-3, and 6-4.
Hissong would sweep Meheq Khokhar, 6-1, 6-0 in No. 3 singles, while Hughes swept Berendt Kahadakeen, 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 singles.
The Greyhounds were leading all three of their doubles matches when play was called.
Loyola returns to action this Wednesday, April 9, for a match at Butler Courts against Mount St. Mary’s at 3:15 p.m.
