Loyola volleyball (2-18) dropped three Patriot League matches last week.
On Wednesday, the Greyhounds lost to American University 25-14, 25-15, 25-17. On Saturday, they lost to Bucknell University 25-16, 25-17, 25-14, before falling to Colgate in straight sets Sunday, 25-20, 25-13, 25-12.
In Wednesday’s matchup against American University, sophomore Allison Cappellino from American had 10 kills and hit .400 for the Eagles. Loyola’s Jane Lukas posted a match-high 13 kills. Lukas has averaged 4.33 kills per set in the last three matches, and she is averaging 4.23 per set in Patriot League play. Mindy Maloney had a season-high six total blocks in Wednesday’s match. Lukas and Lauren Youngblood each had two blocks. American’s win over Loyola keeps them undefeated in the Patriot League at 7-0.
On Saturday, against Bucknell, Loyola’s Lukas led all players with 16 kills, but Bucknell committed just two unforced hitting errors. Lukas’s 16 kills were a career-high for a three-set match, and she hit .263 from the outside, achieving her kill total in 38 attempts with six errors. She also had nine digs for the Greyhounds. Bucknell hit .258 as a team with 31 total kills and only six hitting errors, four coming on Loyola’s blocks. Karen Campbell led Bucknell with eight kills, while Erika Eastley and Jordan Walker had seven each. Mindy Maloney added five kills for Loyola and had three service aces and three blocks. Anna Eckstein led all players with a career-high 15 digs. Kelly McShea contributed 27 assists while picking up seven digs.
Lukas and freshman Molly Cichosz combined for 19 kills from the outside Sunday afternoon against Colgate University, but it wasn’t enough, as the Greyhounds lost in three sets once again.
The Greyhounds will continue to look for their first Patriot League win as they are 0-6 in conference matches. Loyola is back in action Oct. 18 when it travels to Navy for a 4 p.m. contest.
