To My Generation
To my Generation,
You have witnessed a fire burning
Since you were young in this nation.
You have seen your rights upturned,
An injustice of dark creation.
You saw much of this world
Before you could change it.
Disease unfurled and Democracy curled
Disdain in Her stony lip
For traitors storming up the steps
To wrest justice from Her mighty grip.
And yet you love a country
Whose beauty you have not seen.
You are capable of care
When all is back to where it’s been.
My Fellows, do not watch this fire burn.
Grow not complacent or defeatist
In its injudicious turn.
Learn to love in your resist
Though your liberties’ been spurn’d.
Let none despise your youth
And live by unabiding Truth.
To My Fellow Christians
To my fellow Christians,
You are sheep upon a hill
Strayed from Shepherd, you have sinned
And claimed a wolf ye would kill.
You take this land for Israel
Fought and won for His design.
Thou forgets that Israel
Towards earthly kings inclined.
That rich and blessèd nation
Named for struggle ‘gainst divination;
Yes, in America an Israel
Cursed with kings for its duration.
