After its public launch in December, the Bright Minds Bold Hearts Campaign has raised $2.4 million, bringing the total amount raised to $45.5 million. Megan Gillick, vice-president in the Advancement Office stated that the two main initiatives the campaign is currently working on are the NEH Challenge and 10 priorities that include Messina, Sellinger School, Athletics, Loyola Clinical Centers, Loyola College, Global Studies, School of Education, Mission and Ministry, Annual Fund and York Road Initiative. Mini-campaigns are also being planned to support faculty, provide scholarships and a new residence hall for Messina. The campaign hopes to reach $50 million by the middle of the semester and $52 million by the end of the semester. The complete goal for fundraising is $100 million. The campaign hopes to engage a whole new group of people into getting involved, as well as continue the excitement from the December launch. Fifty percent of the campaign’s funds are directed toward an endowment and 25 percent goes toward scholarships. Gillick said that the goal is to continue to offer Loyola to anyone who’s qualified to come to the Evergreen campus and Messina’s impact is already being seen. There are many ways for students to get involved with the campaign, like the student philanthropy council and the senior class gift. Gillick emphasized that it’s not the size of the donation that necessarily matters, it’s that fact that you’re participating and donating, adding to the total number of students and alumni who donate makes Loyola look great when it is ranked against other top colleges. The next event for the campaign is a scholarship dinner on February 11 to celebrate donors and scholarship recipients.
