On Saturday September 19 at 8:30 a.m., the Loyola Athletics department will be holding the 13th annual Diane Geppi-Aikens Memorial run on the DGA field, a central part of our evergreen campus. Students are encouraged to register online at loyolagreyhounds.com/DGA or on campus at the box office. Awards will be given out to the top-3 finishers in each age group, along for the top-3 Loyola student finishers. Geppi-Aikens was diagnosed with brain cancer in 1995, which eventually became terminal. She later died in 2003.
In October, Geppi-Aikens is going to be inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame due to her outstanding coaching career here at Loyola . She finished her illustrious career in 2003 with an impressive 197 wins under her belt. She is still the coach with the most wins in Loyola’s storied history. She won seven conference titles, which included 10 NCAA tournament appearances. Additionally, she led the Greyhounds to seven national semifinal and one championship game. Finally, she was the Division 1 coach of the year three times, the last of them coming in her final year in 2003.
