When SGA announced the artists for Loyolapalooza, students seemed to let out a resounding “Who?”
WLOY heard the disappointment and has acted accordingly. The student-run radio station will host its own festival, the Spring Jam, in competition with the long-running palooza.
“It’s just about time that the people who actually know good music decided who to bring to campus,” said Jack Audi, a student DJ at the station. “This isn’t about politics. This is about the entertainment.”
WLOY has partnered with the owner of Favorites Pub to host the event off campus.
“The space was going unused, and this was a way to bring in some revenue,” he said.
Unlike Loyolapalooza, WLOY’s Spring Jam will not be free, but Audi said it’s the only way they could put on a worthwhile event.
Admission for the event is $15 for students and $30 for guests.
The inaugural event, hosted at noon on Sunday, April 19, will feature Bleachers, Big Gigantic and 2 Chainz, who will perform alongside a hologram of legendary rapper Notorious B.I.G.
