Every year, H&M partners with a high fashion designer to create affordable, one of a kind pieces of clothing. 2014 marks the first time H&M is collaborating with an American designer, Alexander Wang.
On Thursday November 6, H&M released the collection and the entire fashion industry went wild. Announced at Coachella in April, fashion lovers everywhere have been waiting this release for seven months. Wang, a young contemporary designer working alongside H&M, is any sportswear lover’s dream and the collection lives up to all the excitement and anticipation.
In addition to his eponymous label, Wang is the creative director of Balenciaga. Starting his own label and showing his first collection in 2007, Wang has quickly gained respect and success in the fashion industry. Known for his impeccable sportswear and athletic inspired designs and fabrics, Wang has translated his signature style into affordable one of a kind pieces for H&M.
After the initial announcement, the collection piqued excitement again in October when Wang and H&M partnered to present the clothes in a fashion show. Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls and other supermodels walked for an admiring crowd. Creating more buzz, hm.com live streamed the fashion show for all of us non-fashion insiders. All over social media, people were talking about the collection and posting pictures from backstage.
The collection is the epitome of modern clothes for modern men and women. It blends fashion and function into wearable clothing. The collection offers clothes for workdays, club nights and even workouts. The prices range from $13 to $350. From jackets, to dresses, to sports bras and reusable water bottlesWang and H&M have partnered to make some seriously cool clothes. Within hours of being released, not only was the H&M website down, but the clothes and accessories were sold out. H&M has tapped into a unique market that fashion lovers go crazy over: well priced, sought after designer clothes.
