On Saturday, April 12, Loyola University Maryland’s Dance Company hosted its annual Spring Dance showcase in McManus Theater.
The theme for this year was “Don’t Stop Me Now”, showcasing a wide variety of student performances in the genres of hip-hop, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, modern, musical theater, tap, and more.
Brianna Puschendorf ‘27 gives insight into what this year’s theme means to her.
“To me, ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ emphasizes the unity of dance company, which makes us unstoppable. In a way, we’re one big family and together we can do it all. It’s also bittersweet to the seniors that are leaving, just kind of emphasizing that just because they’re graduating, the fun isn’t going to end, the Dance Company experience is ongoing even if they aren’t at Loyola anymore, it’s still a lived in experience!”
Dance Company serves as an inspirational space for students like Vanessa Medina ’27 on campus.
“It’s honestly very special because I’ve danced all my life, and coming to college I was unsure if I was going to continue dancing. Finding Dance Company and being part of it has helped me connect with so many people and find so much inspiration in the teachers and student dancers,” Medina said.
This year, Dance Company premiered their new opening section: “Production”. The “Dance Moms”-themed section was open to all dancers and featured various genres of dance (hip hop, modern, and more) all in one performance.
Opening night was a success, as tickets sold out for both premiere night and the second show on Sunday, April 13.
