With the Student Government Association (SGA) election results now in, many students across campus are reflecting on the election’s significance. Students gave insights as to what made certain candidates stick out from their opponents.
All of the candidates for the 2025-2026 school year election worked hard on their campaigns and demonstrated the characteristics of a friendly competition. Whether it was handing out customized merchandise or a wave in the hallway, students expressed ways they felt involved during this year’s election.
Wiktoria Kasperkiewicz ‘26, shared her surprise with the results and pointed out details she noticed throughout the election.
“I was surprised because I did not know the winner personally, and I figured someone from our class would win. Regardless, I feel all of the candidates ran a good campaign and think the president-elect will do a great job,” Kasperkiewicz said.
Similarly, Dante Kay ‘26, was also surprised with the election results and gave insight into key factors that may have contributed to the president elect’s overall win.
“I was not expecting a sophomore to win. I think he was favored in his grade to win, since so many sophomores knew who he was. He had the advantage of having his entire class vote for him, so I think that definitely played a big part,” Kay said.
According to the SGA website, they are “committed to addressing and acknowledging the interests and concerns of all individuals within the Loyola community.” They are tasked with introducing innovative ideas and initiatives that incorporate both an inclusive and fulfilled Loyola experience.
Student Body President Elect La’Mon Perry Jr. ‘27, shared certain strategies he implemented throughout his campaign that he felt set him apart from his opponents.
“One of the biggest strategies we focused on was maximizing our social media presence. While grassroots campaigning, talking to students one-on-one and tabling is essential, the reality is that you only have a few days to reach as many people as possible,” Perry said.
Perry continued explaining the importance of using social media and how this was implemented all throughout his campaign as a way to engage with the student body.
“Social media allowed us to extend our reach far beyond what was possible in person. We created engaging video content that stood out as unconventional, grabbing students’ attention while making our platform clear and easy to digest,” Perry said.
While this year’s candidates had differing campaign strategies, they all had one common goal: wanting to better the student body. Through this election, students had the opportunity to hear and see candidates’ varying campaign strategies. Whether these strategies were handing out merchandise, or making creative videos and posters, the student body ultimately made a decision based on who we felt would best serve our community.
