Over 100 firefighters and 12 engine companies quickly responded to a huge brush fire, which started at a Baltimore wood recycling facility located in the Woodberry neighborhood on Thursday, Dec. 5.
Loyola students received a Greyhound Alert a little after 8:30 p.m. last night since the fire was half a mile from the Ridley Athletic Complex. Baltimore City Fire Chief James Wallace confirmed the reason this became such a massive and complicated fire was because of the high wind currents experienced in the city.
Wallace told CBS he had never encountered such a huge fire in his career. By Friday morning, the fire still had not been completely contained, causing road closures, traffic, and the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and Western High School to close their doors for the day.
As of Friday evening, the fire has been contained according to WBAL-TV 11. However, the cause of it is still under investigation. No injuries have been reported.
