In an effort to raise money for the school and to clear out the leftover inventory, Campus Police has decided to liquidate the evidence room and hold a yard sale of all goods in the York Road lot.
“We were just really overwhelmed with how much stuff we were bringing in—we could build a house with all these bridge bricks!—and how much of it remains unclaimed,” said Tom Lox, director of Campus Safety. “So we figured, ‘Why not clean house and give back to Loyola as well.’”
The sale will take place the morning of Loyolapalooza, Sunday, April 27. With a high volume of students, faculty and administration, as well as some neighborhood families, already out and about, Campus Safety felt that it was the best day to hold the event.
“Typically, the weather is gorgeous, so why not get up a little earlier and check out the unclaimed items we’ve accumulated,” Lox said.
He also hinted at the idea of the yard sale becoming an annual occurrence. “These things just pile up. Some of them we keep for display, like the case of confiscated glassware in our main office—they’re interesting to look at,” said Lox, “but there comes a point in time where enough is enough. We can’t be responsible for all of these goods any longer.”
For the pricier things—a few bicycles, cell phones, laptops, etc.—Lox said there will be an auction starting at 10 a.m.; all other items will be individually priced or sold for the best offer.
Students will be able to use any money on their swipe card—meal swipes, declining dollars or Evergreen money—to purchase goods at the yard sale. One student said this was “definitely an incentive to get up and go.” She continued, “I’m going to have, like, $300 declining dollars left that, if I don’t spend, will just disappear into thin air,” the senior said. “If I can spend that money on anything, maybe I can pick up a new cell phone or some other item to commemorate my time at Loyola.”
“We really just want to see this stuff go to good use, to get it off our hands and to give back to the community we serve every day,” said Donny Cordall, training coordinator of Campus Safety.
The sale will be held in the lot at 5401 York Rd., starting at 9 a.m. Any questions can be directed to Jenny at (410) 867-5309.
