Late in the evening on Oct. 3, the Baltimore Police Department responded to reports of an active shooter at Morgan State University, a mere two miles from Loyola’s campus.
Five people, including four Morgan State University students, were injured according to the Associated Press.
The shooting occurred during an altercation between two groups attending the university’s homecoming events held that evening.
At 11:52 p.m., Loyola sent out an alert to the community, advising students to stay clear of the Morgan State University area, noting that there is no imminent threat to the Loyola community.
Adrian Block, the Director of Public Safety, sent an Emergency Preparedness email to the Loyola students and faculty at 11:19 a.m. the following morning with more details.
“Last night, our neighbors at Morgan State University experienced a campus shooting that injured five people. This type of incident is extremely distressing to see, especially when it happens on another campus in our city,” he said.
Block further affirmed that there was, and is, no threat to Loyola’s campus.
“As the event unfolded, the Department of Public Safety was in contact with local law enforcement to monitor the situation. We were assured there was no threat to the Evergreen campus,” he said.
As of 4 a.m. on Oct. 4, there have been no arrests related to the shooting.
This is a developing story.
