Track & Field strong at Colonial Relays

The Loyola University Maryland women’s track and field team put together a very successful performance this past weekend at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va., highlighted by freshman Crystal Godette’s record-tying performance.
Godette tied the Loyola record in the 200 meter, clocking a time of 25.99 seconds. Her time matched sophomore Jeanine Gill’s time set last year.
Loyola’s 4×4 relay team of junior Charlotte Criqui, seniors Jacqueline Porter and Marissa Buccellato, and freshman Jessa Laspesa, recorded a time of 4:01.85, just missing the record set last year.
“This was our best showing as a team at the Colonial Relays, and we are very pleased with the way that it turned out,” head coach Amy Horst said. “Erica Canas had a huge [personal record] in the 5K last night, and Crystal matched the record in the 200. I was also very happy with our 4×4 that was just off the school record at the end of a long two-day meet.”
Junior Jenna Smith recorded a 32-6.25 in the triple jump, and Laspesa led the squad with a time of 60.35 in the 400 meters. Freshman Cordelia McGinn led the Hounds with a time of 2:19.88 in the 800 meters, while Criqui ran a 2:21.01, placing second on the squad.
Redshirt junior Kiera Harrison led the way on the first day of competition, placing ninth among 48 competitors in the 3,000m race, recording a time of 10:10.86.
Sophomore Erica Canas finished 13th in the 5,000m with a time of 18:29.16, while junior Anna Bosse placed 17th in the 3,000m with a time of 11:45.64. Freshman Sarah Askine rounded out the top-20 in the 1,500m with a time of 5:00.85.
Senior Courtney Willeford placed 11th in the javelin with a mark of 32.56m. Porter placed 23rd out of 61 participants in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.58, while junior Eilis McGovern recorded a 1:08.42.
The Greyhounds return to action Saturday, April 12, for the Loyola/Hopkins Invitational.
