The swimming and diving teams won all 32 events and broke three old pool records on their way to a convincing meet win at Colgate on Saturday. The men won by a score of 209-58, and the women’s score was 202-85.

Devin Cronin ’20, Emma Schouten ’21, and Max Verheyen ‘23 were the record breakers for the Greyhounds. Cronin set a pool record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.76, Schouten set the record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:19.16, and Verheyen broke his record in the 200 individual medley. Cronin and Schouten beat records set in 1996, and Verheyen beat a record that was set in 2001.

Schouten and Elizabeth Walsh ’22 each won three events on the women’s side. Walsh won the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, and 200 individual medley. Megan Dickey ‘21 swept the freestyle events, recording times of 24.91 and 54.12 in the 50 and 100 freestyle races.

Emily Koegl ’20 won the 100 and 200 butterfly. Jessica Stolfi ‘22 swept the diving events, scoring 185.85 in the 1-meter dive and 191.47 in the 3-meter. Elizabeth Romano had the Hounds’ last individual victory, as she won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:01.06

In addition to breaking the pool record in the 100 backstroke, Cronin also participated in both of Loyola’s winning relay teams. She teamed with Walsh, Dickey, and Anne Hayburn ‘20 to win the 200 medley relay, then she swam with Sophie Jahan ‘22, Claire Bowser ‘23, and Dickey in the 200 freestyle relay.

Along with all of the event wins, 11 of 16 events featured Greyhounds as the second-place finishers as well. The men’s team did them one better, however, featuring top three finishers in every race of the day.

Verheyen won the 200 individual medley as well as the 100 breaststroke. Reid Hussey ’22 and Jimmy Hayburn ‘22 both had two individual victories for the Hounds as well. Hussey led the way in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Hayburn breezed through the sprint free events, winning both the 50 and 100 freestyle.

Other individual winners for the men were Dean Spicer ‘23 in the 1,000 freestyle, Jordan Copeland ’23 in the 200 butterfly, Mark Boran ’21 in the 200 backstroke, and Zach Metzler ’20 in the 100 butterfly. Jack Still ‘23 won both diving events handily, posting 229.35 points in the 1-meter dive and 243.97 in the 3-meter.

The Hounds swept through the relay events as well. Verheyen, Hayburn, Colin Anderson ‘21, and Jonathan Brooks ‘22 claimed the 200 medley, while Brooks, Anderson, Hayburn, and Sean Keller ’23 won the 200 freestyle relay.

Loyola will look to continue this level of play when they return to Mangione Pool next Saturday when they host Fairfield in a dual meet beginning at noon.
