Top 10: Best Things about Christmas at Loyola

Top+10%3A+Best+Things+about+Christmas+at+Loyola

Going to a Jesuit university means lots of things, but one thing that is extra special is the excitement felt on campus once December hits and Christmas is around the corner. Whether it’s baking cookies with friends, setting up your Christmas tree or hearing Christmas carols all day long, certain things will always remind you that it is Christmas once again. Here are the top 10 things that make Christmas at Loyola the best.

  1. The Decorations

Though the end of Thanksgiving break means the beginning of finals season, it also brings the gorgeous Christmas decorations to campus. Even if you don’t have a night class, take an evening walk with your friends and soak up the beauty the Christmas lights bring to the quad.

  1. Baking with Your Roommates

Sugar? Chocolate Chip? Gingerbread? No matter what type, everyone craves cookies and treats during the Christmas season. Baking five dozen cookies with your roommates will not only make your room smell amazing, help you bond and forget (temporarily) about all the studying you have to do, but the cookies will push you through finals and make perfect little gifts for friends.

  1. Buying Your Friends Gifts

Whether it is a cute sweater, or things for the kitchen, shopping for your friends is like shopping for yourself, but more rewarding once you get to give the gifts and watch their reaction. Also, spending hours searching the Internet for the best gifts is a great way to pass the time during a break from studying .

  1. Humanities

If you aren’t quite in the Christmas spirit, there is one place you must go on campus: the Humanities building. If you thought that Humanities couldn’t get any prettier, you thought wrong. The trees that are placed throughout will make you feel like you are at home.

  1. Snow

Is there anything better than going outside to ,all the trees covered in snow during December? Go outside, jump around, make a few snow angels, then come back inside and drink hot chocolate and watch your favorite Christmas movie on Netflix.

  1. Events on Campus

From Chordbusters to Lessons and Carols, the events on campus are endless. Also, with the beginning of the holiday season comes the start of basketball season. From concerts to sports, Loyola’s campus is filled with fun activities during this holiday season..

  1. Ugly Christmas Sweaters

Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without ugly Christmas sweaters. Going to an ugly Christmas sweater party is a must for the Christmas season. Putting on an ugly Christmas sweater will automatically put you in a good mood, and in the Christmas spirit.

  1. Starbucks

You know it is officially Christmas season when the cups at Christmas become red and snowflaked. Also, as soon as every girl starts ordering a drink beginning with the word “Peppermint”, you know it is December.

  1. Decorating Your Room/Apartment

Lets face it, Pinterest is every girl’s best friend when it comes to DIY Christmas decorations. Decorating your dorm room to look like your living room at home makes Christmas that much better at Loyola. Going back to your apartment after lots of classes and studying is more fun when there’s a mini tree set up, lights all around and snowflakes hanging from the ceiling.

  1. Christmas Carols

Sitting for five hours straight studying in the Student Center is better when you start hearing Michael Bublé singing “Its Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.” Studying, reading and writing papers become a little less mundane when you can put on the Christmas Pandora and listen to it for hours, and know that in only a few days time, you are going home for the holidays.
